Staff travels - Olivia's European Adventures

Olivia from our web team

It's seems like everyone has been packing their bags to spend time exploring Europe in Summer.

Leaving behind cold and wintery Australia, we were super envious of Olivia's getaway.

Travelling with her best friend, Olivia weaved her way from one beautiful city to the next: Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Prague and Cinque Terre.

'Prague is a fun, buzzing and culturally stimulating city -  I would highly recommend visiting, one of the highlights of my trip!

SS16 The City of Lights

“Wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast.”

Earnest Hemmingway. The Moveable Feast.

To represent the Parsien experience, is to understand that Paris, like London or Rome, is a city dedicated to culture. Paris wants you to walk and to notice, to peak behind the edifice. This is not a city of pace, or having to be on time. It is a city to take time.

What you find is yours and how you find it, your secret. Paris’s gems aren’t in the luxury boutiques, hotels or buildings; they are the buildings, the parks and the roads.

This season is a reminder of those subtle sparkles off metal window frames on off-white facades, or the ‘diamonds’ in the footpath that revel in the moonlight on a night wander. It’s about the buildings that push up, next to or over one another revealing the subtle differences in tones and colour, exposing texture and pattern, referencing that the City of Light is not just physically, but intellectually illuminated too.

Silhouettes and fabrication crisscross feminine/masculine boundaries with opacity, transparency and weight of cloth all playing significant roles. Iconic stripes and ethnic patterns gently express historical and social pride.

Most of all, this season is effortless and casual, an unforgettable nonchalance inspired by travel and walking the City of Light.

Paris is more than the sum of its parts.

That’s why it stays with you.

MEET... Sarah from Babylon Flowers

There's nothing we love more than fresh flowers. We caught up with the beautiful Sarah from Babylon Flowers, a small business owner, mother of 4 and floral extraordinaire!

For our recent VIP day, Babylon flowers created this stunning arrangement for our Melbourne boutiques.

Tell us about Babylon flowers and your new space in Brunswick?

We love our new home in Brunswick. Our new store is truly a celebration of all things beautiful and botanical. We are thrilled to share the space with Ruby Oak Giftware. It has really become a destination store for our customers.

What piece from Ruby Oak Giftware do you have your eye on?

I’m in love with a piece of artwork Deb has on display ‘Rock pool Reflection’ I can just visualise this piece in my bedroom. Her throws and candles this time of year though are so inviting.

Has your background always been in floristry?

I have a background in Horticulture. I studied a Bachelor of Horticulture at Melbourne University's Burnley Campus. Then went on to work with a tree grower specialising in advance trees for urban landscapes. After having children, I realised that I had a passion for flowers and decided that I wanted my own business and I have spent the last five years bringing Babylon to life.

Kylie (my business partner) and I worked together previously to opening Babylon and have the same passion for Mother Nature, we just love what we do and I think it shows.

We love the workshops on offer at Babylon Flowers – what’s the most popular?

Flower crown classes are always popular especially for a Hen’s party. They are always so much fun. Flowers and champagne what’s not to love!

What are your all-time favourite flowers?

Each flower has its own beauty, but there is something very special about a heavenly scented garden rose.

What floral trends can we expect for winter?

Lots of texture and rich warm tones. Wild, unstructured pieces that allow the flowers and foliages to dictate the design. Plants are also still very much on trend, our customers love our range of indoor plants and pots for the home and office.

They say a certain scents can trigger memories – does a particular fragrant flower transport you to a past time or place?

Definitely, the scent of Daphne takes me straight back to my Mums garden in winter and the evocative scent of jasmine heralds the onset of summer.
